Free Your Mind. Free the Earth. Free The Animals.

God love the Aussies. I mean seriously…for a nation that loves meat so much it is honestly inspiring that they have come up with Meat Free Week (24th March to 30th March 2014).

The three main reasons why YOU should get involved (no matter where you are in the world!) are simple…

Your Health: Eating a diet with too much meat can increase your risk of disease (and a plant based diet actively works at preventing such disease)

The Environment: Meat production takes a heavy toll on our natural resources.

Animals: Not only are MILLIONS of animals slaughtered to make meat but even worse FACTORY FARMING. (I read on the Meat Free Week website that 90% of all chickens and pig meat in Australia is factory farmed. I.AM.HORRIFIED.)

I’m not going to go into all the details because all you need to do is jump on over to the Meat Free Week website because it is super informative and you will learn a lot. ALSO it has an entire page dedicated to delicious vegetarian recipes which I am super excited to try out!

I would also like to point out that I am NOT a vegetarian. I eat meat, but when I do I always try to make sure it is organic and free range. I have to be honest, as always, it comes down to education. The more I read about this topic, the more it makes me want to cut back on meat altogether. For me it’s the cruelty to animals and sustaining the earth that really hits home with me. Let’s be part of a generation that can really make a difference. Whether it means you eat a little less meat, incorporate more plant based meals into your lifestyle, support your local fruit and veg farmers or sponsor someone doing Meat Free Week, I encourage you to do at least one thing that could make a difference. I believe it was Gandhi that said it best “be the change you want to see in the world”.

Let me know how you get on!
