Post MFW Round Up (That’s #MeatFreeWeek, not Milan Fashion Week)

So…I did it. One week totally meat free. I’ll be honest…it wasn’t actually that hard for me. I LOVE plant based meals. Sometimes red meat makes my skin itch (seriously, what ARE they putting in it??) and if I’m really truthful I don’t always trust where meat is coming from here in Hong Kong. So I thought that I owed it to myself to really learn more about this. After reading up on the Meat Free Week website it really made me think about where our food is coming from. Being an avid animal lover the truth is quite shocking. This last week I read Farmageddon: The True Cost of Cheap Meat by Philip Lymbery and it has really opened my eyes (and put pain in my heart). WHAT ARE WE DOING?!!!

Now, I do understand that not everyone is an activist…so let me make this really simple. (As always…just 3 things because of my short attention span)

–    Eat more plant based meals. Could you commit to a Meat Free Monday? Just one day out of the seven? It’s good for your body, it’s good for your soul. It’s good for the planet.

–    Not everyone can realistically cut meat/fish out of their diet. That’s reasonable and I hear ya! So how about this…be more MINDFUL about where your food is coming from. Is it sustainably sourced? Is it organic?? Is it free range? Ask yourself these questions and consciously choose your food. Higher quality, sustainably sourced, free range meat is going to be better for your body and better for our planet.

–    Get informed. If you know me at all by now you’ll know that I ALWAYS advocate EDUCATION. Make sure you are fully in the know about what you are putting in your body. For health reasons, environmental reasons and for the animals. Make sure you really understand (and religiously read!) labels. Try to ensure that all the food you eat is good, honest, natural food. Your body will thank you. And so will the planet.

So, I bet you’re wondering…where do I sit now? Well…I haven’t dashed out to join the vegan monastery…yet. But I also have not eaten any meat or fish since I started doing meat free week about 10 days ago. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to after all that I have learnt in this last week. Plus did you even know how many AMAZING veggie recipes there are out there?! My skin has improved LOADS (I’ll say it again…what ARE they putting in there?) and I have loads of energy! If I do eat meat or fish I know that I will be super mindful about where it’s coming from and I will definitely support organic and (more importantly) sustainable farming.

It really makes me go back to the very reason I started this blog. To live an honest life. To live a healthy life. To live a natural life. If you guys have any info/resources/social media platforms etc. on the issues I would LOVE to know more and LOVE to get involved. Hit me up!

On a separate note. Look what I had for lunch today. RIDICULOUS. VEGAN. RAW. HAPPINESS. Looks alright, huh? (Thank you Life Deli Hong Kong!)

  1. I like the idea of at least one or two meat-free days. Thanks for the post!

I can understand that you don’t always trust where meat is coming from in Hong Kong so I would suggest you look for New Zealand products in the supermarkets. Its reputation is renowned. Enjoy!
